About us

Our STORY

Vision Africa originated as exactly that – a vision from God to our founder, Bishop Dr. Sunday Onuoha.

Sunday was a young child when the Nigerian Civil War broke out. In the midst of that trauma and suffering, his mother continued to praise God – an act that always made him wonder how such faith was possible.

On May 25, 1978, Sunday began to answer that question when he heard the story of Jesus Christ for the first time. Through the suffering of Jesus, Sunday saw a God who stays steadfastly by our sides, no matter what the circumstances. In that moment, at only 14 years of age,  Sunday decided to spend his life sharing God’s amazing love and grace with others.

In 1983, Sunday was accepted  into the ministry of the Methodist Church in Nigeria. He earned his Bachelor’s degree, served as a pastor, and was involved in mission and outreach in Nigeria.

In 1995, Sunday completed his Master’s and Doctorate from Southern Methodist University’s Perkins School of Theology in Dallas.

His Doctoral thesis, inspired by a vision from God, explored how a partnership between Americans and Africans could bring hope to African people through practical service.  It was aptly titled, “Vision Africa”.

What started as a flicker of light in a 14-year-old boy became a bright flame of a thriving ministry, and this mission organization was born.
