Celebrating 60 With Service & Hope

Vision Africa "ICONS" Winner 2023

Vision Africa Founder and President Bishop Dr. Sunday Onuoha celebrated his 60th birthday on March 22 in the way closest to his heart—with service to others. With the help of visiting dignitaries, including a former Nigerian president and the current governors of two Nigerian states, cornerstones were laid for three future buildings that will comprise the campus of the Agnes Onuoha Memorial Hospital.

The first to be built will be a five-room water treatment plant that will house an industrial capacity reverse osmosis treatment system that will remove odor, color, taste, microbes, iron, suspended particles, heavy metals, salt, and hardness from our aquifer water source, making it medical grade and safe for all uses in the hospital. The equipment can also recycle waste water and other soluble waste.

Foundations were also laid for a proposed medical residence and an administrative building. When completed, the residence bungalow will have six rooms with private baths and a common living space, dining room, and kitchen. It is meant to serve visiting physicians and other medical professionals donating their time and service to AOMH. The administrative building will house a janitorial department, security office, conference room, and a small supermarket.

A two-day medical mission was also offered during the birthday celebration, first through the AOMH ambulance, which offered free blood sugar, blood pressure, and malaria testing to the surrounding community, and then through offerings on the AOMH grounds, where villagers heard health talks and received free lab tests, eye and ear checks, and other medical care. In addition, more than 1,000 bed nets were distributed, with a focus on children, to help stem the ever-present threat of malaria, which is endemic to the area.

We thank God and our donors for the progress being made at AOMH, but there is still more work to do to open our doors. If God is calling you to help bring the comfort of medical care to the thousands of people waiting desperately for it, please click on the Donate button below.
